Bellows are fabricated from other special materials
on request.
It
is important that during soldering and cleaning the
bellows are not exposed to soldering flux containing
chlorides. Steel components, tin plated or treated with
soldering flux, must be thoroughly rinsed with hot water
and neutralized prior to joining to the bellows. Mere
traces of chlorides are likely to attack the normally
corrosion resistant austenitic Nickel-Chromium steel,
as well as non-ferrous metals.
The same
applies to service media for any environment containing
chlorides.
In addition,
the thin-walled bellows are susceptible to transcrystalline
stress corrosion and localized pitting. To deal with
potential corrosion, it is recommended to use titanium
stabilized AISI 321 stainless steel for higher temperature
and AISI 316 Ti for chemical applications. Our metallurgical
laboratory has gained extensive experience with corrosion
problems and is available for consultation. |
